I'm hoping they change this but until then, don't get HDClone or upgrade to version 6 if you already own a professional license. The Cosmic Crisp is a hybrid of the Honeycrisp apple and Enterprise apple. If you have no internet and need to rescue a desktop and have your bootable USB with you thinking you can restore a backup that you've taken using version 4 or 5, you will have wasted your time. Trying to use the USB or CD on another system prompts you to activate the USB using one of your 2 permanent activations.
Some orgs that still clone drives have a dedicated cloning rig with a cageless hot-swap backplane so they can do many drives at once. And the idea of having enterprise-grade cloning software tied to a single machine isnt entirely ridiculous either. Keep in mind that this is professional version software. If you are an enterprise user cloning many computers you pay more. What's happened with the update to 6 on the PROFESSIONAL version is that the USB and CD can only be used on the machine that the software is currently installed on. I install it to my workstation and then create bootable USB or CD and can clone on user systems or the occasional travel laptop. A special SafeRescue mode makes HDClone an invaluable tool for rescuing defective hard disks and other media. HDClone is a perfect tool for backups and creating copies of entire software or operating system installations. I've been using HDClone professional since version 4 and it's been a great tool for a sysadmin that travels somewhat. HDClone creates physical or logical copies (clones) and file images of hard disks and other mass storage media.
