Fireball has a small AoE and explodes on contact so you lose half of its AoE to open air, Meteor takes 3 seconds to fall so it’s nigh unusable against any mob that isn’t standing still or spawning in, Firewall is a thin line with a chunky casting delay, and Hydras shoot bolts that neither pierce nor explode, and they have a 1 second wake-up timer. Chain Lightning is so-so on damage, has a great AoE, but is very mana hungry and sometimes bounces in an unhelpful way.įire sorcs do the most damage on paper, but their skills either don’t pierce and/or are very unwieldy. Lightning has very high damage but an extremely narrow AoE. Nova is so-so for damage (compared to lightning) but has a huge AoE.
The main difference between them is AoE size and damage. Light sorc builds have the fastest clear speed for sorcs, whether you prefer Nova/ES or Light/Chain Light. Infinity would save you about 3 skill points on CM, but I feel Insight or Plague would be more useful to a Blizz sorc.
A Blizz Sorc can max blizz, get the basics (tele, static, warmth, Frozen armor), and get 8-11 in CM by level 85. To get to level 33 CM, you may need to invest about 8-11 skill points depending. Level 33 CM gives -180% res, and you should get an additional -15% from 3x facets on Death’s, Nightwing, and Vipermagi/Ormus. They do, but you really shouldn’t need Infinity with Cold Mastery.
I have infinity and I’m wondering if infinity, cold mastery, and sunder charm all stack. Griffon also reduces fully like CM, you would need more -res however to get full clearing speed, here Infinity does help out (depending on the infinity you could even wear it for the - lightning res). Infinity, Cold Mastery, Sunder Stack as in Sunder drops to 95% Infinity if the monster was immune before Sunder reduces it to 78% (1/5th rule also applies to Sundered Monsters) and Cold Mastery drops it to -100% if high enough, so infinity not needed for Blizz Sorc. Since you have griffons and infinity I’d go Nova/Energy Shield or Lightning/Chain Lightning, personally the former.ģ Nova / 3 LM / 3 ES Obsession would be the holy Grail imo.įire has the highest damage potential, but personally think Nova still clears faster (and likely lightning aswell but haven’t played that since D2r and last was atleast 5 years ago, but don’t think anything changed). If gear wouldn’t matter, Nova/Energy Shield is very strong and very fast at clearing.īudget Blizzard can compete with much higher gear though.
